As a tenant you have
certain rights. These vary according to whether you are a council
or housing association (Green Vale Homes) tenant or in private rented
accommodation. When
you become a tenant of Green Vale Homes your rights are set out in
the tenancy agreement as follows:
-
Your tenancy is "assured" with all Green Vale Homes.
- You have the right to buy your home
- You take in lodgers
- You can make any improvements to your home
- You can exchange properties with another
tenant;
- You could be paid for some improvements that
you have made (if you move house)
- You can manage your estate through local
organisations
- Green Vale Homes must give you information
about how it runs the homes it owns.
- You are entitled to live in a “decent home”

What is assured tenancy?
Rights set out in Housing Act 1988, 1996 plus additional rights contract
(tenancy agreement). The Housing Corporation oversees the work of housing
associations (registered social landlords) and ensures that additions
rights are given to assured tenants as per Tenants Charter.
You’re
Tenancy Agreement.
You should have received
this in a small binder when you became a Green Vale Home tenant in Bacup
or Stacksteads. This booklet will explain in depth your entitlement living
your home. You are entitled to all of the services listed above as long
as you do not break your tenancy agreement.
